An easy way to be a blessing
My neighbor and I were talking a few weeks ago about how to impress upon the kiddos, once again, that Christmas is NOT just about getting presents but about Christ's love. She commented how great it would be if we could bake some Christmas goodies and then pass them out to some of the other neighbors.
I decided to act on it. She and her two children came over last Friday, which actually happened to be my birthday, and we got busy.
The kiddo pairs are close in age, which makes things easier. We decided to make pretzel buttons with square pretzels, white candy cane Hershey kisses and Christmas M&Ms and chocolate fudge, straight off the condensed milk can.
Two easy recipes that can be done quickly and that take minimal prep or clean-up. In other words, when cooking with a group of children--priceless! In between making the goodies, the kids were hard at work making Christmas cards for the neighbors.
After dinner and birthday cake we sat everyone down and reminded them again about how we can bless others because we have been so blessed. We also talked about how this is a way that we can show honor to others. Showing honor is a topic that gets talked about quite a bit around here. In short, honor is 3 things: 1. making someone else feel special 2. doing something more than is expected 3. having a good attitude. You can read more about honor here.
We bundled up and headed out to take around our plates of treats. The kids were so excited to deliver them and the look on the faces of the neighbors were priceless. It was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and spread some cheer. What an easy way to be a blessing to others! Also, throwing a birthday in for good measure didn't hurt either!
